We love our Strider!

My daughter is almost 4 and got her Strider run bike about 2.5 months ago. She loves it! We do have the extra tall seat post which gives her plenty of growing room. I think if your child is much older than 3 you should get the extra tall seat post in addition - gives you at least 3 more inches of seat height I would say. To those who worry the bike will be too small just check out the Strider website and you will see their 5 year old having fun on his Strider! My almost 4 year old was coasting down small hills with her feet up after about 4 weeks. She can't get enough of her bike! This really is one of the best 'toys' we have ever bought.

Strider Bike

The bike is bit smaller than I thought it would be. My son is a tall 3 year old 41" and will most likely be way to tall by his 4th birthday April 3. Overall it is a very nice bike to train with. However due to the size would not recommend.

Stylish Strider Bike

Our experience with the Strider Sport Co. has mixed feelings. Out of the box this Strider bike came with a damaged seat. The company responded and sent us a new one immediately. Our 2 year old grandson loved his "birthday bike". It was light weight and very stylish. He rode around the loving room during his birthday party. He wanted to keep the bike but the handle bars would not turn. We took the bike apart twice but still could not get the handle bars to turn smoothly. A local bike repairman said that Strider bikes have problems with their steering columns. We decided to return the bike. We believe that the Strider Company must implement some quality control in their factory if parents are going to pay $100+ for a balance bike. We do however recommend the online runbikes.com company. They were very helpful to us. A few days later we found a local store that sold Kettler and Strider bikes. We bought the Kettler bike. It cost a little more but is well made and turns smoothly.

Great Fun; so-so quality

I gave the bike to my 2 year old today when he woke from his nap. He rode it for 4 hours straight without getting off! He loved it and was jamming around in no time. When it was time to go inside my son wanted to take it in with him. I had do some serious convincing to get him to leave it in the garage. As far as quality goes it is not any better than a $35 department store bike. Eventually the box stores will catch on to the run bike idea and be able to sell them for much less, but for now they are being sold in lower volumes so you have to pay the higher price. I had to stop and tighten the hub bearings twice today because there was too much play in the hubs. The hubs are all plastic with steel races inserted in them. They really need a piece of steel between the races to hold them from shifting.

Obvious Solution

We probably wouldn't have our son on a bike yet without the Strider. It seemed like such an obvious solution to teaching kids to ride a bike. We were amazed that after just a couple of tries on the Strider, Thomas was picking up his feet and balancing for short periods of time. He will be riding bikes with the rest of the family in no time! He won't be the "baby" riding in the bike trailer behind his Dad's bike-he'll be an active participant, not a passive one. He loves having his own two-wheeler; he feels like a big boy on his Strider!
